Dave Majumdar, National Interest: The 5 Most Lethal American Weapons of War Ever

America didn't become a military superpower overnight but through many years of innovations and necessity. Here are five weapons considered among the deadliest ever.

The United States is the most formidable military power the world has ever seen. Arguably, since the end of the Cold War, America has enjoyed a level of dominance unparalleled in history—neither Rome nor the British Empire enjoyed such a level of superiority over rival powers. While the American military is not the largest on Earth, it is by far the best-trained and best-equipped force on the planet—putting rivals like Russia and China to shame.

But it took generations to develop America’s military into the world-beating force it is today, and it wasn’t until the end of the Civil War that the U.S. fielded armies that could challenge European militaries on the battlefield. From then onwards, it took two world wars before the U.S. military finally established itself as the most dominant force on Earth.

Here are five of all-time deadliest innovations in America’s arsenal:

With all due respect this analysis is complete and utter bullsh!t unworthy of serious consideration. Not only is the United States not the most powerful military force the world has ever seen, it is not even the most powerful military force on earth today. The most powerful military forces one earth today are Russia and China. Each of these countries far exceed America in terms of military power.

Now as for the comparison of the US to Great Britain, at its height the British Empire controlled 1/3 of earth's population and 1/2 of its land. The US of today or at any time in its history controls nothing close to this.

As for America's ability to conquer and hold territory, ISIS has gained and held territory faster and more effectively than the US military could have even if it had the full support of the US political system behind it. America's leaders should be soberly studying ISIS and it's tactics in order to try and learn. The media idiot who concluded this about America's military power should be mercifully terminated from his or her job in a compassionate way.

As you wisely point out, nuclear weapons are the most important part of military war fighting. Russia holds a substantial lead here. Furthermore Russian and Chinese cyber warfare capabilities far exceed those of America. As such, even if the Americans actually had a conventional superior capability which is unlikely such would be likely very quickly neutralized in a military conflict by cyber attacks.

At one point, you had pointed to a poll that pointed out that 41% of Americans believe the US is one of several major military powers on earth. With all due respect these Americans are properly informed and have seen through the propaganda of America's enemies!! For years, I thought this 41% comprised of the American military. At least they are smart enough to understand reality or so I though, now I'm not so sure.

The bottom line is Russia and China are the most powerful military forces on earth right now. If American leadership recognizes this and acts accordingly, good outcomes for America may still be possible.

Such bullsh!t as America being the most powerful military forced on earth is even more ridiculous than a "flat earth" theory or the earth as the center of the universe theory. Such things were believed once. Americans are way to smart to believe such things now. Hopefully they are way to smart to believe such utter stupidity as "the United States is the most formidable military power the world has ever seen." This is utterly stupid bullsh!t as it is not even the most powerful military force on earth today. These positions belong to Russia and China.
