Russian President Putin: 'US Anti-Missile Defence Is A Huge Danger To Russia'

FOX News: Putin warns Romania, Poland over implementing US missile shield

Romania and Poland are in the potential crosshairs of Russian rockets because they are hosting parts of the U.S. missile defense shield that Moscow considers a threat to its national security, President Vladimir Putin warned Friday.

Putin warned the European nations that Moscow has repeatedly said it would have to retaliate if the missile defense shield was put into place, but U.S. allies have ignored Russia’s warnings.

Earlier this month, the U.S. program was declared operational at a site in Romania, drawing an angry reaction from Russia. NATO said the system is purely defensive and a response to a growing capability of ballistic missiles globally.

Well, Putin is not completely wrong. Politicians are changing but the missiles stay.
I an other hand that's very exaggerate, the low number of missiles will never stop a Russian attack.

Doesn't work that way. Back in the '50's, RAND's Brodie came up with all the basics, none of which have changed, Mutually Assured Destruction, Minimally Assured Destruction, AntiBallistic Defence Theory.

An ABM system, large enough and dense enough, can protect a single target, against a "logical" First Strike. That's how the Soviets set up the ABM ring around Moscow, unaware that rather than having half a dozen nukes targetted on Moscow, as would be "logical", everybody and their dog who had a nuke, had one targetted on Moscow, over 1600 in total, serious overkill.

Minimally assured destruction was based on the math that 150 nukes, was enough to utterly destroy any nation stated, economically, militarily and politically. ( Nuclear Winter modelling dropped it down to 100 to destry the whole world). So, all you needed was 150 nukes to launch a first strike. If your enemy launched a First Strike first, then all you needed was 150 survivors, ( and thus the Nuclear Trident was created).

ABM Theory dictated that if you had enough deployed ABM systems, to knock down some of the surviving nukes, then a First Strike, coupled with an ABM system, would allow you to "win a nuclear war".

The Soviets/Russians view US deployments of ABM Systems ( and ship born Ageis into their "near abroad") as staging for a US "First Strike".
