Angolans Are Electing A new President In 38 Years

Reuters: Polls close for Angolans electing first new leader in 38 years

LUANDA (Reuters) - Angolans voted in a parliamentary election on Wednesday expected to usher in the ruling party's defense minister as the first new leader for 38 years.

Joao Lourenco, who has pledged to boost growth and fight corruption, would inherit an economy mired in recession as gaping inequality, soaring inflation and high unemployment squeeze poor Angolans who have benefited little from a decades-long oil boom.

Polls closed at 6 p.m. (1700 GMT) but in some remote areas where voting started late, polling station were allowed to stay open a little longer.

An unofficial result is expected by Friday. But there may be no formal announcement for two weeks as ballot boxes wend their way along pot-holed roads and dirt tracks in a country of 28 million spread across an area twice the size of France.

WNU Editor: The results will be known on Friday at the earliest.

Will Santos's daughter get to keep her billions?

B.Poster said...

"Will Santo's daughter be allowed to keep her billions?" Normally I would say yes. As part of the process for a losing party, they are allowed to keep their gains lest they make trouble for the new leaders. The condition is tbey go away quitely to live out the remainder of their days in luxury and comfort.

Unfortunately these aren't normal times. I'm pretty sure Hilliary was made such a deal when she lost. I had wondered if she was continuing to perpetuate the lies against Trump or the had simply taken on a life of their own in her absence after she started them. After recently calling Trump a "creep" I think we can be pretty sure she is actively behind the smear campaign.

The trouble with tyrants of all types be they HRC or any other is they ALWAYS overreach. HRC and her family could have very easily retired into wealth and privledge beyond measure of what any American could have ever hoped for. But NO they HAD to push the issue. Even though tbey cheated and stole their way to power and would've been allowed to keep their ill begotten gwins they just COULDN'T let it go. They HAD to have more.

HRC recklessly tried to imflame Cold War 2 against a nuclear armed superpower for no good reason except to demonize her opponent and tbe accusations were all lies. Furthermore she called POTUS a "creep" and by extension all of those who voted for DJT "creeps." During the election cycle she called DJT's supporters "deplorables." It seems she has hatred for over half the support of LEGAL voters. A person who hates those eho they are leading CANNOT be allowed to be a leader. This along with her insane willingness to further inflame Cold War 2 should excluxde her from power in a nornal world.

Since the world no longer seems "normal" pethaps Santos's daughter doesn't get to keep her billions and go away quitely. They may have learned from the Hilliary example and act acvordingly.
