U.S. Considering More Sanctions Against Venezuela

Bloomberg: U.S. Weighs New Venezuela Sanctions That May Hit Bonds

* Measures would seek disrupt Maduro’s financing channels
* Trump administration targets Venezuelans to increase pressure

The U.S. is preparing another round of sanctions to punish the government of Venezuela, and one potential tool under review would squeeze trading in the country’s debt, according to two people familiar with the deliberations.

The next steps in a campaign to pressure President Nicolas Maduro are still being debated within the Trump administration and no decisions have been made, one of the people said. U.S. President Donald Trump is traveling outside of Washington and discussion is still going on at the State and Treasury departments.

One measure under consideration would block trades of Venezuelan-held dollar-denominated notes sold by the government and Petroleos de Venezuela SA, the state-run oil company, according to another person. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the actions are still under deliberation.

WNU Editor: This is all PR. International banking institutions are already limiting what bonds can be traded by Venezuela, and the state oil company and the Venezuelan government are already under U.S. sanctions.

I am almost against sanctions.

With sanctions or without sanctions a economy as poorly run by economic illiterates like Maduro et al will fail.

With sanction being in place, the Left will claim that the sanction spoiled a perfect experiment.

Without sanctions the Left will claim Venezuela was sabotage anyway. The things is that maybe there might not be so many delusional people so claiming it.

If Venezuela collapses and can no longer sends money abroad, will Ex-US Rep. Joe Kennedy II have to work for a living.

Hugo gave Kennedy or Citizens Energy cheap oil several years back.

"Joseph P. Kennedy II, chairman of Citizens Energy, climbs down from an oil truck as he made a delivery in Springfield. Citizens Energy reports that the foundation has not received its annual fuel installment from Citgo and the Venezuelan government, compuounding a budding emergency fuel assistance crisis in Western Massachusetts" - masslive

Aizino,

"I am almost against sanctions." I tend to agree. As you point out, an economy as poorly run as Venezuela will collapse anyway.

Sanctions only undermine the role of the US dollar as world reserve currency hastening its inevitable end, ensuring a "hard landing" for America, and prolonging govrtnments like the Maduro government as being "sanctioned" by the US is a "badge of honor" around the world. As such, no sanctions and perhaps this government falls faster. In any event, when it falls, GOOD RIDDANCE!! With that said there's a good chance it may out last the US government.

"GOOD RIDDANCE!! With that said there's a good chance it may out last the US government."

It being the Venezuelan government.

In the novel "Courtship Rite" people of a certain tribe had their social standing determined by their predictions.

"Donald MacDonald Kingsbury (born 12 February 1929 in San Francisco) is an American–Canadian science fiction author. Kingsbury taught mathematics at McGill University, Montreal, from 1956 until his retirement in 1986."

Too bad we couldn't tag predictions to your screen name (not ur IRL name which we probably could not pronounce anyway). That way we could draw the proper conclusion about your statements. They may not be as incendiary as those of Saddam Hussein, but they are every bit as bombastic and full of hyperbole.

Please don't go away. A Western writer once said "It is all grist for the mill."

BTW you want to write 'outlast' instead of 'out last'. I am sure there is a cell on a peninsula, a gulag or somewhere, if you do not perform well. You should learn proper grammar & spelling, if you want to do your job well.
